FAQs
Archamerica, Inc
How do we get started?
The process starts with an initial consultation. One of our architects will typically arrange to meet you at your home, office, or project site to discuss your plans. During this meeting, you'll cover your objectives, vision, and expectations for the project, along with your construction budget. Following this discussion, the architect will create a proposal that outlines the general scope of work, services we'll provide, the anticipated timeline, and our fee structure. What information does the architect need from the client?
Beyond a property survey, it's beneficial if you can share magazine clippings, photos, or descriptions of similar projects you find appealing. Providing a wish list helps outline and communicate the key features you'd like the architect to incorporate during the design process. Why use an architect, instead of going directly to a general contractor?
Working directly with a general contractor means bypassing the essential design phase. Contractors focus on building, while architects specialize in designing buildings and interior spaces. When you work with an architect, you'll receive a project that's thoughtfully designed to match your vision and address your specific requirements. You'll also maximize your return on investment and ensure the new construction adds meaningful value to your property. How do I obtain a building permit?
Archamerica, Inc will help you complete and submit the building permit application and any additional documents required by your local municipality. As the property owner, you'll need to sign the application and pay the associated permit fees. We'll prepare and stamp the drawings with the architect's certification, then assist with submitting them for review. If the municipality provides comments, Archamerica, Inc will revise the construction drawings as needed to secure permit approval. After approval, you'll pay for the permit and collect the approved drawings. The building permit timeline typically ranges from two weeks to three months, depending on your local municipality. What is the architect's role during construction?
Construction involves collaboration among the architect, general contractor, and client. Maintaining clear communication between the architect and contractor is essential for anticipating problems and efficiently addressing issues that arise on site. Archamerica, Inc's level of involvement is usually tailored to your expectations and confidence in your general contractor. For most projects, we conduct regular site visits, review subcontractor shop drawings and submittals, and may also evaluate the contractor's payment requests.
